Dailies and Writing Updates
Enjoy a free book this weekend (2017 Dec 16-17)! Have a Merry Christmas, Happy Holiday, or whatever floats your boat.
The second book of the Captive Galaxy Series has been out for a little over a week now and I would like to thank my readers for their support. One of the neat things about Kindle Direct Publishing is that you can see exactly when people have downloaded a book as a purchase and how many pages have been read if they are a part of Kindle Unlimited. To see hundreds of pages read a day is pretty cool (thousands would be better though!). To see people read and enjoy my work helps get me through the day.
I appreciate you all!
I previously posted that I’d pushed the old “submit” button to send all my words saved as binary 1’s and 0’s to travel through the magical ethereal plane to the Amazon servers to then (hopefully) be summoned by kindles aplenty. If you have Kindle Unlimited you can borrow it for free (well..you pay a monthly subscription for it so it’s not exactly free) or if you have the $2.99 to spare, it is but a click or two away.
I hope my readers patiently (perhaps impatiently) waiting for this second installment enjoy the read. And please know that I am working on further stories to add to the series. Thanks and tell your friends!
As is becoming my tradition prior to returning to work in our wonderful public school system (sarcasm?) I have uploaded my most recent work (Book 2 The Bellerophon: Flight) to Amazon. Sure it was done months ago…maybe…but I dragged my feet. Why? Because even just one download makes my entire day and gives me something to look forward besides the final bell so I wanted to stall until school was starting back up again.
Hope you like it. Please give it a review and rating if you have the chance. If you want to pick up the first book it will be on sale starting on August 25. I’ll post some updates, cover art, etc. as this all moves forward.
Yeah. Finally. After a bunch of things getting in the way (things called “life”) I now have book 2 done. The Bellerophon: Flight will be available on Amazon.com hopefully by the end of the month. I’m just waiting for cover artist Kevin Reyonlds to send me a cover and it’ll be uploaded shortly thereafter. Look for Bellerophon: Flight to be out soon and look for it to also be bundled with my first book Bellerophon: Ambush for a savings if you want to pick up the first two books in what will be a series of 4-6 books (not counting spin-offs).
Thanks so much for your patience and I’ll get back to whatever it is that I do.
Wow! Yesterday was great! Had Bellerophon in the Top-100 in three sub categories. The best day of downloads thus far! Pretty awesome to see. But now we are into Friday…and for some reason there are not many books downloaded on Friday. Oh no, so sad. It will pick up tomorrow I know. (UPDATE: It did pick up this past weekend! Record number of downloads!)

And to put these numbers in perspective…there are more than 2.9 Million eBooks…

Writing Project(s) Update:
First off I’d like to thank my readers in Australia. October was a pretty good month for downloads there. I taught my students the awesome song Waltzing Matilda weeks ago so obviously that news made it’s way from Washington State to the land down-under and thus the uptick in downloads there. I love that song…perhaps the best unofficial national anthem ever. The real one, “Advance Australia Fair,” is the official anthem but the one everyone really knows is Waltzin’! Love it!
Sigma Draconis is coming along. Not as quickly as I’d like but it’s coming along. The trouble is not the writing. It’s finding the time to do the writing! Holding down a full-time job with a commute that’s more than an hour round-trip really cuts into my writing and brain-working time. I’ve changed things up this week writing at home…

Update: NOT talking about Russia, the continued slow death of the Constitution, or UC Irvin. Nope all about Sci-Fi!
An update for those that enjoy my updates. And for those that don’t…well whatever then. This update is about my writing and has nothing to do with the Russian assassination of a critic of dictator Putin or the attack on the US Constitution by those sworn to uphold it nor will I go into detail about my thoughts on the UC Irvin banning of the American Flag (at least until these future leaders of the “free world” realized they’d lose their funding and loans if they followed through with it). I must share that there’s a reason why I write science fiction and I study the past…it’s because the “now” kinda sucks. We are far, far from the Greatest Generation it shames me to say. Oh well I suppose the Earth Abides (my second favorite book of all time – check it out!).
My writing projects have been slowed by work. I wish I could devote more time to them but in teaching 4 of 6 classes that are outside my specialty (or any type of training) I find I’m pretty busy during waking hours. Trust though that I am still working on the sequel to The Bellerophon: Ambush. The first 3 chapters are done and the majority of the book has a very detailed chapter by chapter draft/plan in place. Just need time to do it all! And I’m also busily putting together other outlines as well. I’m good for the next 10 years of writing I think, now if I could spend any of those 10 years actually writing I’d be good to go I think! Don’t worry. I’ll have the sequel done going into the summer. I can tell those of you who have followed my writing that this next book will be far more entertaining than the first. Promise!
P.S. Reviews/rating are welcome!
I’m happy to announce that my book, The Bellerophon: Ambush, has gone live…again, but this time as a heavily updated 2nd edition. I’ve asked Amazon to push the updated version so that readers who previously downloaded a copy will have in their possession a greatly improved version complete with 4-5 thousand additional words of content as well as many (too many!) resolved grammatical issues. Also, the timeline has been moved to the end of the book as a final chapter under the heading “REFERENCE.” Previously the timeline was at the beginning of the book. Some loved it. Too many didn’t. I’ve also included a short excerpt from my upcoming work Sigma Draconis which can be found after the timeline. Thanks for the continued support from my readership and the patience while I prepared this 2nd edition. It’s been a journey to say the least!
J.W. Kurtz update.
I’ve been writing and editing like mad. Recently I pulled my book from Amazon for a short hiatus as I do some heavy re-editing. I hope to have the 2nd edition out by then end of January. I’m about 80% done with this renovation project. I can promise you this…IT WILL BE MUCH BETTER than the 1st edition plus it will have a snippet of my 2nd book. I’ll update, tweet, post like crazy when edition 2 is done. I miss checking the Amazon Authors page daily!
My second book, Sigma Draconis, and just where exactly am I on that? I’m nearly at 80K-words. I would say I’m well over halfway through the first draft. Maybe a little more. Maybe a little less. I hope to have it out by the middle of the spring. I wish writing was my fulltime job but it isn’t…for now. The sequel to my first book will be started in earnest the day after I finish Sigma D.
In the meantime I hope to post some more movie/show reviews soon.
Thanks for reading. Thanks for checking-in.
