About Me

Astronaut-Drinking-Carlsberg-on-Moon-HD-Desktop-Wallpaper

Hi!  I’m J.W. Kurtz.  I’m excited to share my thoughts and observations with this blog.

Originally this blog was meant to singularly explore and share the details about my writing projects and the trials and tribulations of that endeavor.  But recently I decided to expand my scope.  Soon (as in the summer of 2016) I hope to begin offering reviews on the many, many (many many) items I order from online stores such as Amazon.com and Costco to name but a scant few.  These reviews will be submitted for the followers of my blog either in written form or video (YouTube channel will be forthcoming!).  The focus of these reviews will be broad for no other reason than I am interested in so many things.  Please stay tuned!

In the meantime, here is a little about me:

I love reading history and science fiction (I just love reading actually), walking my dog, course hanging out with my wife, following and discussing politics, and testing out new toys I’ve procured in my quest as an American to accumulate more and more stuff.  I also watch movies as often as I can which is sadly not often enough!  Yeah…beer and scotch…I like these as well!

My writing continues.  I have dozens of ideas outlined and ready to go BUT my day job keeps me rather busy so it’ll take me awhile to get everything I want to write done.  If you are one of my readers, please bear with me as I navigate the self-publishing world.  I’m doing this pretty much alone all the while carrying the responsibilities of a full time job that seems to think it’s allowed to come home with me.  I try to keep work at work and my writing at home but all too often my time, strength, and creativity are stolen by the day job in efforts to be a “team player.”  It is what it is…at least for now!

Please support my endeavors by using the Amazon.com links to purchase some of the items I have reviewed favorably.

Many thanks and, as always…cheers!

J.W.

Well, you went and done it. You went and followed Uncle Bardie’s Stories & Such. You are now one of Uncle Bardie’s Band of Merry Followers. Just so you know, Uncle Bardie’s a hoot, and he’s got quite a few whoppers in his bag of stories. Some funny, some not so funny. But all told for your entertainment. Thank you for following his blog

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I can just about unequivocally state I haven’t met a book I didn’t like. Yes there are the odd exeptions, which shall remain nameless, but overall I find it rare that I don’t like a book. I don’t read a lot of military science fiction, but I do love a good apocalypse and of course aliens!!!

Hi, I appreciate the follow – especially from an educated student/thinker/creator of philosophical sci-fi. Thus, I’d be interested in your thoughts/feedback on some of my fantastical parables( short stories, excerpts from novellas) such as “Spencer and the Tankbuster'(takes place in a futuristic fascist society – full text available) “Boxing Sugary Nina’ and others on my ‘interdimensional blog’. Thanks.

      J.W. Kurtz responded:

Just an e-book right now. As more in this series (as well as other books – I have more than a dozen in the pipeline over the next several years) come out paperbacks will also be available. Thanks for the question and interest!

Usually, subsequent works reflect a higher quality of work as the author goes through the learning curve, right? I hate the learning curve, but I’m glad it exists as it means that there’s hope for my stuff down the road.

Or hope for an editor to get a lot of work. One of those two.

I like the “don’t worry…your first million words will be crap” line I’ve heard. I look forward to the 2nd million words. 🙂

I just posted a reblog of Author David Gaughran’s post regarding that whole thing of, let’s call it the writing arc. The big thing that hit me was that an author sat down and mapped it out, and figured out the successful authors didn’t really hit it big until their fifth book, and they used series to successfully push forward to their readership their content. So, figure each book is 120 k? You need to do 600 k to kind of hit the big time. That’s still 400 k under the crap line. Aw, me, what will I do??? Perhaps I can count the blog words toward my crap total? (If so, that’ll take maybe 15 k off. Blog faster, I think.)

I like the way you think! I know I’m counting my blog lines and movie reviews towards the first million!

Thank you for following my blog. I looked at Bellerophon and your prose looks very well written. My knowledge of sci fi (although I love movies) is limited to Philip K Dick, but I’m definitely intrigued by the military sci fi. I didn’t even know this was a subcategory. I love military history, so… Good luck with your continuation of the series!
